Plant trial delayed as the state files a strike-out application

The state has filed a strike-out application to disallow expert evidence supporting the legalisation of dagga. The move has further delayed the so-called dagga trial, in its third day. Legalisation of Dagga

Since 2010, the so called “Dagga Couple” have been fighting to have marijuana legalized in South Africa after being arrested for being caught with more than 100grams of the substance. The whole country has been closely following what has now been dubbed “The Trial of the Plant” that has been taking place in the Constitutional Court. Not everyone is for this though, many groups or people believe that the use of dagga is dangerous to not only adults but young people as well and that it should be deemed as illegal to even have it in your home. Earlier this year, the High Court in the Western Cape declared it legal for people to grow and smoke dagga in their homes. This morning we are joined by Alexander Dowding from the Dagga Party of South Africa as well Johan Claasen from Doctors for Life.

State lawyers have accused partners Julian Stobbs and Myrtle Clarke of trying to escape arrest by launching the case challenging the country's laws against dagga. The pair wants the High Court in Pretoria to declare current laws against dagga invalid. The Authority argues in their medical journal that criminalization has had little impact on how people use the drug. The debate on legalising cannabis is lighting up South Africa, with its ban being challenged in the high court, raising the possibility that it could effectively be decriminalised. Craig Patterson points racial bias on dagga regulatory laws

A historian testifying in the case that seeks to legalise dagga in the high court in Pretoria says laws on the substance were formulated on racial bias. Craig Patterson's testimony follows that of British drug expert Professor Davit Nutt who earlier testified that cannabis was intrinsically less harmful than any other drug. The case continues today. Legalising dagga still stimulates debate in SA

The legalisation of medical marijuana in South Africa. The debate that's hotting up from all angles in the country. Last month, in honour of IFP member of parliament Mario Ambrosini, we hosted a discussion on this very topic, what followed, was a passionate debate that not even we suspected. We were approached by the Concerned Youth of Southern Africa who wanted to join us on the show to talk about their obligation to stop the legalisation of Marijuana in the country. We then also invited the flip side of the coin- a Mr. William Wallace from lobby group, Below the lion. The debate had a huge response and spread like wildfire on social media sites locally and abroad. But before we continue, let's just first have a look at our previous debate?
